  Königin-Luise-Stiftung について

The Queen Luise Foundation's grammar school combines traditional values and virtues of a classic, demanding educational institution with a high level of performance requirements and adequate room for development for its around 450 students.

This lower number of pupils compared to other institutions is also reflected in the low class frequency: between 18 and a maximum of 23 pupils study in the grammar school classes . Entry into the grammar school is mainly possible on the regular admission dates for the fifth grade as well as the seventh grade. The school community perceives the small class sizes as one of the main features of the Queen Luise Foundation. This and the carefully cultivated school culture lead to an atmosphere that is sometimes described as “familiar” , in which the attentiveness of the teachers for the children, adolescents and young adults entrusted to them is of high and central importance.

The aim is to ensure, already and especially in grades 5 to 10, in an environment of protected normalcy, for an educational career that is performance-oriented, but also oriented towards one's neighbor and age-appropriate. The Queen Luise Foundation offers a wide range of courses in the upper level for grades 11 and 12 (the so-called “qualification phase”). This can accompany the development of talents and individual advancementon the way to the Abitur after eight years of high school. The offer also includes special courses such as the "Additional Film Course", the subject of philosophy or the "Digital Worlds" course. The long-term Abitur average of the students is slightly better than the Berlin average. Pupils for whom a solid high school diploma is a great success, as well as those with top performance, benefit from the diverse range of courses and the small study groups in the upper school.

Basically in modern language
The grammar school has two basic classes. As in many federal states outside Berlin and Brandenburg, entry is already possible in grade 5. As a further specialty, the grammar school has a long tradition in which it is completely in the modern language. In year 5, pupils receive one more hour of English compared to the lesson table in primary school.

Languages at high school
The languages offered at the foundation's grammar school are English, Latin, French and Spanish. Pupils who started with English in elementary school choose a second foreign language in the 7th grade, which they continue at least up to the upper level. Spanish is currently offered as a third foreign language, and from 2020 this subject will become a second foreign language alongside Latin and French.

Ethics or religion
At the Königin-Luise-Stiftung you have the option of choosing between the subjects of ethics and religion from grade 5 onwards. There is also philosophy in the upper school.

social learning
Social learning is promoted through the common organization of everyday class life, if necessary the distribution of tasks in the class council, work with mediators and goal-oriented class trips. As part of the “Responsibility” project, the pupils do a voluntary social internship. The school station with social pedagogues and an employee in the school psychology service are available to support all students in dealing with special situations in everyday school life.

Operating experience
The internship, which is also compulsory for high school students, is completed at the KLS in the ninth grade so that the preparation for the MSA exams in grade 10 and, above all, the units for the transition to the upper level are not disrupted. Schoolchildren independently search for a suitable company of their choice.

After school
Traditional working groups of the school are the choir, theater, dancing / dance evenings, rowing, ball sports, school garden, languages and band. The supply varies with the demand from pupils and parents. The pupils of the 5th and 6th grades can take part in the student working hours (SAS). As part of this care offer, support in completing homework is guaranteed until 4 p.m.

Advanced courses
Despite the limited number of students, the range of advanced courses is extensive and currently includes the following subjects: German, English, French, Latin, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, art, history and political science.

Entry into grade 7
In the 7th grade, the capacity is expanded to include a further class with a maximum of 23 children, so that the Queen Luise Foundation's grammar school has three classes up to and including the 10th grade (7a, 7b, 7c, etc.). For comparison: Berlin high schools have an allocation frequency from class 7 of 29 students per class and a maximum size of 32 students.

Possible combinations and freedom of choice
The freedom of choice and possible combinations when choosing a course in the upper level are hardly restricted by any requirements of the school. The lower frequency of pupils in secondary level I usually continues in small course sizes in the upper level.

Special courses in the upper level
The following courses belong to the special form of the upper level of the Queen Luise Foundation's high school and support the task of recognizing and developing special interests and talents: Performing games, additional course in film, rowing, philosophy, religion, text production, studies and job as well as digital worlds. The offer also takes into account the fact that the number of upper school courses to be taken by students on their way to high school after eight years of high school (“G8”) is now 40 - significantly higher than before.

Digital education
The good media equipment of the secondary schools of the KLS (numerous rooms are equipped with smartboards, close-range beamers or large screens), two computer rooms, a class set of tablets and extensive WiFi in the school building allow lessons that take into account the latest developments in modern didactics. The social changes caused by digitization are not only addressed in regular lessons, they are also the subject of additional subjects such as ITG (an independent subject in grade 7 at high school), media (grade 9) and digital worlds (upper level). A compulsory elective subject computer science (grades 9 and 10) and various working groups in the digital area (robotics, scratch, programming) complement media education at KLS.
