Klosterschule Roßleben について
The Klosterschule Roßleben is one of the schools in Germany that is richest in tradition. As early as 1554 my ancestor Heinrich von Witzleben founded this school in a closed down monastery to enable all children of the area access to education regardless of their social origin. Today we rate highly as an overconfessional boarding school for girls and boys among the oldest boarding schools in Germany. The connection of lived tradition and innovative pedagogy generates the essence of our scholastic model. The conveyance of christian values is just as important as the promotion of a healthy awareness of knowledge for the development of the individual abilities of our students.
The foundation of the Klosterschule Roßleben follows the goal of submitting young people a scientific education in an open-minded, democratic community with christian and classical-ethic principles, regardless of the social status of their parents. The foundation consists of various foundation bodies: the convention of descendents, the heritage administration and the managers, which have been represented by members of the von Witzleben family since 1554. The foundation exclusively and immediately follows charitable and benevolent purposes and is a member of the “Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen”, the federal association of German foundations.

At the independently organized Klosterschule Roßleben 380 students in the grades 5 to 12 are being taught in the department of mathematical-scientific and modern languages oriented classes. The size of the class of an average of 20 students ensures an individual care and an adjusted configuration of the lessons to the different levels of performance. First and second foreign language in Roßleben starts in grade 5. Besides English as a first, we offer French, Latin, Russian or Spanish as a second language. In grade 9 a further specialized focus is chosen; this can be a third foreign language or a mathematical-scientific subject. The Higher School Certificate is achieved after 12 school years according to the guidelines and regulations of the Free State of Thuringia.

Supporting the individuality, developing independence, taking over responsibility – these are the main objectivities for our pedagogical work with our students. The boarding school has the capacity for 110 students. Life in the community and life for the community are coining experiences for all young people. The individual support of the talents of our students is due to our special attention. We equally support them in getting over scholastic deficits as well as their personal problems. The foundation of this is created by our value oriented education. The support of traditional virtues in combination with applied modern pedagogy is our contribution to raise the adolescents entrusted to us to become persons who are able to cope with life and take over responsibilities.
The rooms of the boarding school students are situated in the main building and the student residence “Aqua”. Between the individual rooms an area used by all the boarding school pupils is available. Depending on age and occupancy the boarding school rooms are construed as single or double rooms and very spacious four bed rooms. The internet access is guaranteed by a WLAN connection in the building. Especially important to us is that the students feel at home in the Klosterschule. Decorating the room with small furniture, such as carpets and seats but also with plants, pictures and posters is not only allowed, but supported.
Surrounding Area
Roßleben lies in the beautiful valley “Unstruttal” right in the middle of one of the oldest cultural landscapes in the Free State of Thuringia at the border to the state Sachsen-Anhalt, about 90 kilometers west of Leipzig.
Weimar, which was honored with five stars as Europe’s cultural capital in 1999, is reachable by car within 45 minutes.
The state capital Erfurt and the university city Jena are popular excursion destinations in the area around Roßleben.

cafeteria:
The students of the Klosterschule Roßleben operate their own cafeteria under the supervision of the boarding school administration. Older and younger students meet there for an animated exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. Besides being a comfortable meeting point for both, teachers and pupils, it also offers an often used soccer and billiard table. It also functions as a bar during the weekend which is managed by the students. The bar and its organization is a central feature of the alcohol prevention program of the school. In this way the students gain new freedom still being in the protection of the campus.
Canteen
The Klosterschule offers an own canteen with a dining room where freshly made meals are cooked every day. Here a balanced and age-suitable nutrition is important to us. Our kitchen team regularly informs about the weekly diet.
In addition the dining room with a size of 330 square meters is used for the evening and school events.
Activity
The designing with the head, heart and hand is a significant column of our integral education at the Klosterschule Roßleben. The students receive the possibility to practice forms of expression and design with technically and musical artistic oriented guilds. Creative guilds that are offered: drama, school choir, model making workshop, instrumental music, school history, cooking.
The physical balance over sports creates an important column in the integral education at the Klosterschule Roßleben. The Klosterschule students regularly participate in regional and national athletic competitions and successfully compete with other schools in the contest. Athletic guilds that are offered: basketball, field hockey, floorball, soccer, skiing course, rowing, tennis, volleyball.

Getting to the school from the airport
Roßleben can be reached by car via the autobahn A 9 (Berlin-Munich), A 4 (Dresden- Frankfurt a.M.), A38 (Göttingen–Halle) and A 71 (Schweinfurt–Sangerhausen).
Roßleben has a connection to the ICE – train stations Erfurt (57 km) and Weimar (45 km) over the train station in Artern. On holidays and drive home weekends a shuttle bus service is organized. With Leipzig (90 km) is also an airport close to Roßleben.
The sense of community in all classes is simply unique. Everyone in the school is nice and open to new students. The classes are varied and can even be fun. It's a blending of tradition and modernity. There is also a music academy in the school, which is available for students, who are talented in music. Gifted students in grade 9-11 have the chance to apply for a scholarship. The school is highly respected and a great place to study.
