BBIS Berlin Brandenbur International School について
We are a 708-student international English-Language IB Day and Boarding School offering Early Education through Grade 12. Our campus is spacious and forested with over 360,000 sqm for growth and discovery. In 2020, we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary and are excited about what is to come. Working with purpose, vision and a detailed master plan we have committed ourselves to continued investment and upgrades to our school and campus. BBIS is a leading international school, inspiring students in pursuit of lifelong learning and excellence. We celebrate diversity in a caring, internationally minded community. As an inclusive school we empower learners to fulfill their unique potential. We guide our students to become responsible, compassionate, global citizens. We pride ourselves on our commitment to excel both in and out of the classroom. Ensuring each student has the chance to fulfill their potential, irrespective of their talents or interests, we build confidence that fosters connections and community. Growing up is not easy, but we understand the challenges and changes that occur. We support our 3 years olds to 19 year olds with dedicated, caring professionals at every step of the way. 24/7 security and a strong child-protection policy makes BBIS safe in all respects.

授業フォーカス :We concentrate on each of our students, so they can earn knowlede, which is necessary for the job world in the future and for the study at the universities.
授業目標 : Our goal is to prepare everyone and make them ready for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. カリキュラム : The school offers primary and secondary school program:
Primary school:
BBIS provides its Primary students with a collaborative environment in which to learn through a challenging, comprehensive, and engaging curriculum, the International Baccalaureate’s enhanced Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Our BBIS learning environment, both inside and out, is dedicated to the creative, curious and caring qualities of children. Our spaces are designed around the child’s learning needs, creating an environment for the child that speaks of optimism, care, playfulness and growth.
We value and depend on the partnership between school, child and home. Families enrich our learning community, and together with the school, support students’ learning, growth, well-being and agency. Jon Butcher
Students aged 6 and above join Grades 1 to 5 based on their age. Our facilities have been purposefully created for our learners, capitalising on our natural environment, leveraging the qualities of space, nature and light. Find out more here.
Children aged 3-6 join our Early Education (EE) Community. Our dedicated learning spaces have been designed especially for our youngest learners, in multi age classes. Our EE programme takes inspiration from Reggio Emilia – the renowned educational philosophy and approach rooted in the principles of respect, responsibility and community.
Secondary school:
Learning in our Secondary School is firmly based on the corresponding IB Programmes - Middle Years, Diploma and Career. Classes are small, usually with fewer than 18 students, which enable the teachers to know each student well and address their individual needs. In addition, specific support is provided for students with special learning needs and those for whom English is not a first language.
As a learning community, the school places great value on interaction and cooperation between staff, students, parents, administration, and the wider community.
We celebrate diversity and capitalize on it. The broad cultural backgrounds of our students and faculty bring a range of perspectives to academic studies, enriching the teaching and learning experience. The boarding students add their own energy to the school and with the significant contributions made by our parents and school community, we are, in effect, a vibrant 24/7 learning community. Andrew Hand – Secondary School Principal - IBDP / IBCP
IB Middle Years Programme The Secondary School MYP at BBIS runs from grades 6 to 10 and follows the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), which acts as an important link between the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP). In addition to the academic programme, students can choose from various different extracurricular activities, including basketball, badminton, soccer, and athletics, Drama Club, Musical Mania, Instrumental Ensemble, Model United Nations, Debate Club and many more.
IB Diploma and Careers Programmes The Secondary School IBDP/ IBCP at BBIS runs from Grades 11 to 12.
Academic achievement is important to us in the Secondary School and, to suit the diverse needs of our students, we offer two International Baccalaureate Programs; the Diploma Programme and the Career-related Program. Both awards can incorporate an accredited American-style High School Diploma.
Via these pathways, we provide the opportunity for our students to realize their potential in a range of subjects, equipping them to enter tertiary institutions and work environments here in Germany and abroad. Our broader aim, though, is not only to nurture the cognitive aspect of our students but, through a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and a commitment to community service, to help our students mature into responsible global citizens who will make a positive contribution to whichever community, or communities, in which they find themselves in the future.

Accommodation
We offer comfortable student rooms with biweekly cleaning and linen service, full meal service, comprehensive pastoral care and homework support. The morning and evening routines are supervised as well as the weekend time which regularly includes outings and activities.
The Boarding School Guidelines provide the students with a general framework for their time in Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany. These guidelines outline our expectations regarding common values, acceptable behaviour and goal setting.
Weekday afternoons are filled with art, music, drama and sports activities offered at school and in boarding. Additionally, we have added extra language instruction for German, specifically for Boarding school students. The weekends provide time for more activities and excursions especially to experience Berlin’s diverse institutional, cultural and recreational offerings.
“Culture Night” takes place during four or five evenings of each school year to celebrate the different cultures represented in boarding school. Students from one country cook a typical national dish together with the other boarding school students and prepare a presentation and/or an activity for the boarding group. While the boarding group dines at decorated tables, music typical for that country contributes to the ambiance of the evening.
Overall, the BBIS boarding community gives students the professional and reliable support they need to feel comfortable and accepted at their “home away from home.”

A comfortable dining room, two kitchens, a laundry room, a large recreation room, a fitness room and a private courtyard enable the boarding school students to truly feel at home and enjoy learning together.

Activity
Athletics The athletics programme consists of competitive and recreational sports, which are offered over three seasons throughout the academic year. Each sport is offered once during these terms, which enables us to offer a wide variety of sports. Our programme is in line with the German International School Sports Tournament organization (GISST). We strongly encourage all students to engage themselves in this athletics and further develop or find a new passion. Since 2013-2014 season, we are now also involved in the European Sports Conference (ESC). This conference connects well to our aims that we have at BBIS. In this conference we work toward a common aim to achieve an efficient and well-balanced program that promotes healthy competition, sportsmanship, and full participation.
Extracurricular Activities (ECA) Programme Athletics is part of the Extracurricular Activities (ECA) programme, which oversees the complete range of activities at BBIS. Most activities are offered through this programme which coordinates registration, scheduling, and information about each ECA. The athletics programme also sends out seasonal sign-ups for training and after school and weekend games.
Activities are organized into three terms (autumn, winter and spring) and take place in the afternoons or, in some cases, at lunchtime. Activities like sports, art, drama and music might have weekend activities as well. The programme changes from term to term, with some activities continuing and new ones begin. Between 50 and 60 ECAs are offered at BBIS each term, both sporting and non-sporting.
Communication/Information Our Athletic Director, Wouter Allard, is in charge of creating a portal not only for our school, but also for GISST and ESC.
Staffing
BBIS staff members serve as coaches and chaperones on the athletics teams. We value and encourage staff members in working with the students outside the classroom, thus extending BBIS’s holistic philosophy and mission.
Philosophy The athletics programme emphasizes participation, commitment, self-discipline, sportsmanship, effort and teamwork. Our competitive teams aim to play to the best of their ability and be successful in their games and tournaments. We teach our teams and players “to win and loose with grace”.
We would like to emphasize that we do not cut players from our teams. All players get the opportunity of training and playing some friendly games. Because of the limits in players allowed to go to GISST and ESC tournaments, we must limit our selection of players for those events only.
Travel Opportunities Our students are involved in weekend and weekdays games and tournaments both in and outside of Berlin. We also travel within Europe and aim to provide students with an athletic as well as a cultural experience. We strongly believe that being part of a team helps our students to develop as considerate, disciplined, culturally aware and open-minded people who strive to get the best out themselves and their team.
Recreational Sports Some of the recreational activities that are on offer throughout the year are (may vary from year to year) sailing, archery, football, basketball, climbing, golf, karate and softball.
